Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers

Closing instructions

This page lists proposed article mergers as a supplement to the merge categories; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here. To see all articles marked for merging, see All articles tagged for merging.

Mergers of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.

How to propose a merger[edit]

There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:

  1. mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
  2. mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
  3. mergers that are either controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, and therefore need assistance from uninvolved editors in determining whether to merge the pages.

If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)

If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group, or a formal discussion is needed or wanted, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out the merger in a type 2 article):

  • Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the TARGET ARTICLE (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example ==Merger discussion==).
  • Step 2: Put one of the merger tags at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common ones. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions on different talk pages).
  • Step 3: If the proposed merge is controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.
See: Copy and Paste easy merge templates for easy to follow shortcuts of the above procedure.

Requests for merge assistance and feedback[edit]

If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:

  • Tag the article as shown above
  • Create a discussion as shown above
  • Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
  • If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, contact Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Merge for assistance.

For other topics:

  • If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Wikipedia:Moving a page.
  • Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have merged an article by this deprecated method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please DO NOT perform further moves by cut and paste.

NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge

Merge requests[edit]

New requests[edit]

If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. After a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.

Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the edit summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests may not be honored.

Awaiting consensus[edit]

After all involved articles are tagged for merger discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age or disagreement. All merger comments and discussions should be directed to the Discussion subsection of the targeted articles' talk page, not here. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals.

  • Merge Clube Atlético Bragantino and Red Bull Bragantino. The first article lists the club as a defunct football club, which is incorrect. What was said back then to justify the creation of a new page is that it was a merger between Red Bull and Bragantino, but it was not, since the former actually plays in the state second division, and Bragantino's property remains with the club. What happened was a financial takeover and a rebranding of Bragantino, similar to what has happened twice to Paulista Futebol Clube, which never got a separate article. Same goes for FC Red Bull Salzburg, which retains the history of the club prior to its rebranding. Bragantino is not a defunct club and should Red Bull quit supporting the club financially, it will just go back to its original name and identity. My suggestion is merge the new page into the old one and rename it. Horcoff (talk) 01:34, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Merge Lungi and Longyi. They are about Same cloth with Same Origin and Same Name only the later one filled with nationalistic non important History and Description, can easly intigrated in a one NonPOV neutral article. —2A0A:A546:F1F4:0:C9A1:1816:F968:16F4 (talk) 06:17, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Comment: I have issue with the redirect deletion of Article, I request you GenQuest, please propose a deletion tag into the top of the page as you did it into the Li Xuerui career statistics & Wang Yihan career statistics. It is no different than these 2 so i have question regarding this. To add, my request is reasonable in the Sense that there is no more scope of improvement in the Article as I said before and due to some Wikipedia rules as well WP:NOTSTATS. I am in favour of complete deletion of Wang Shixian career statistics. Zoglophie (talk) 04:10, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

  • Merge Wang Yihan career statistics with Wang Yihan. Here is one more case. I request you to merge above mentioned pages as the main Page Wang Yihan has not enough content in it. Moreover, it will only help the readers as they will have no need to go in other page. This splitting up of page is unnecessary and not user-friendly.Zoglophie (talk) 06:18, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

  • Merge Médiatrice Ahishakiye, Speciose Ayinkamiye, Christine Bakundufite, Eugène Barikana, Marcelline Basigayabo, Theoneste Begumisa Safari, Diogene Bitunguramye, Emmanuel Bugingo, Jean Pierre Celestin Habiyaremye, Mussa Fazil Harerimana, Jean Pierre Hindura, Clarisse Imaniriho, Marie Mediatrice Izabiliza, Ernest Kamanzi, Phoebe Kanyange, Valens Muhakwa, Winifrida Mpembyemungu, Gamariel Mbonimana, Chantal Mbakeshimama, Annoncée Manirarora, and Christine Muhongayire into a combined article to eliminate the number of spammed articles with no foreseeable content, a list would be more helpful. • Not done These unlinked, un-bannered articles all seem to be parliamentarians, and as such, pass GNG for stand-a-lone articles. They don't appear to be "spam", either. There is no discussion area created, so discussion taking place here. Proposer can feel free to create a list article if they feel it helpful or necessary. Same topic, only local different spelling, could be better integrated in a Good shaped article with common title and simple one "disambiguation page" would be better. Thanks — (talk) 11:38, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

  • Merge into LPS Cetate Deva. There are two competing articles about this subject (the football team based in Deva, Romania). Mureșul Deva was established in 1921 and had over time various other names such as Corvinul Deva, Minerul Deva, Explorari Deva. In the summer of 1992, Mureșul Deva withdrew from the third tier (Liga III) and started to play only at amateur level, until 1994, when the newly promoted club Vega Caransebeș merged with Mureșul Deva and enrolled in the third tier as Vega Deva, but continuing the football legacy of Deva. In 1999 the club was renamed, this time as Cetate Deva, in 2001 again as Mureșul Deva and in the summer of 2002 merged with the newly promoted club CS Certej, CS Certej was absorbed and Mureșul Deva continued as CS Deva. In 2006 the club is renamed as CS Mureșul Deva, but was not re-founded, it was just renamed, then in 2012 it was dissolved, but re-founded again in 2013, as Cetate Deva. Deva is a small town in Romania and Muresul/Cetate (and the other names) was the only team ever. Cetate is the successor of Muresul. I propose a single article on LPS Cetate Deva page, in which to expand the history, but with four foundation years (1921 as Muresul Deva, 1994 as Vega Deva, 2002 as CS Deva and 2013 as Cetate Deva). • Merge Black Guardian into List of Doctor Who villains. I think that the content in the Black Guardian article can easily be explained in the context of the article about the villains in Doctor Who, and the article about villains in Doctor Who is of a reasonable size that the merging of The Black Guardian will not cause any problems as far as the size of the latter article is concerned. Pahiy (talk) 23:41, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

The same boring chronicles repeated there again and again! Need definitely encyclopedic (article relevant) styled summarizing. Thanks in advance — (talk) 12:47, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

  • Merge Sandaime J Soul Brothers into J Soul Brothers. The first article is about the third generation of the group J Soul Brothers. The second article which is about the original J Soul Brothers is very brief, contains info about the second generation but lacks all the info about its current generation. The merge would also follow suit with the original article in the Japanese Wikipedia. Either merge Sandaime J Soul Brothers into J Soul Brothers, or delete J Soul Brothers and move all its info to the article of the third generation in the history section. I am considering both mergers because the article that was created first was Sandaime J Soul Brothers. Takacchin10_10 (talk) 22:31, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Not done That's not going to happen across namespaces without going thru the deletion process for the first published article; and then a review and acceptance of the second. Better to just add info to the existing article from the draft article. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 01:31, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

  • Merge Neutralisation (immunology) into Neutralizing antibody. I proposed this merge a month ago. I notified the person who wrote most of the text in the other article and I posted the discussion in the Wikiproject Medicine. However, I have not received many responses, or better: there was not a clear opinion expressed in the responses. Therefore I am not sure what the right code of conduct is regarding this merge. Are the responses sufficient enough for me to perform the merge? Thanks -- Huhny (talk) 12:02, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

  • (DISCUSS) Merge Big Five (technology companies) into Big Four tech companies. Consensus was unanimous, though there's a parallel move request that may affect this merge in a tangential way, that is Big Four tech companies is proposing to be renamed Big Tech, so you may want to hold off until that concludes (or do the merge quickly before it concludes). --Doug Mehus T·C 01:30, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
    • Moot: both articles have now been merged following consensus into a single Big Tech article as suggested above by the proposer. Richard3120 (talk) 16:46, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Richard3120, Thanks. Can you confirm that an actual content merger of the former into the latter was done, and not a straight redirection? I did note the photo gallery of the former was merged, but didn't look through whether some of the textual content was merged in. Doug Mehus T·C 15:08, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
@Dmehus: As far as I can see, all the text and the images from Big Five (technology companies) are included in Big Tech, they've just been reordered into a better flow but there's nothing missing. The history of Big Four tech companies just shows up as a redirect since its inception, so I can't check that. Richard3120 (talk) 16:45, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
Richard3120, Yeah because Big Four tech companies is now a page move direct following its move to Big Tech. Thanks for double-checking the text of the page was, subject to some redactions and refactoring, merged.Doug Mehus T·C 16:49, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Merge List of last known speakers of languages into List of languages by time of extinction (>>>Discussion here<<<). All of the people listed in the former (and many more) are noted in the latter, with the exception of the few still alive. There are many languages with only a handful of speakers left, e.g. see here, and it is rarely reported when a language goes from having a handful to only a single speaker, whereas when it is more often reported when a language goes extinct. Thus, little will be lost merging the former into the latter. Calbow (talk) 12:47, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
